Long Beach Volleyball Returns Strong

The Long Beach High School Boys Varsity Volleyball team is looking forward to a long and prosperous season. Led by captains and 2015 Nassau County All Division award winners, Luc Esformes, Sammy Gibson, and Chris Scandole; the team is one of the best in the county and is contending for a Class A County Championship. After a tough start to the season, the team has rebounded recently by winning the Port Washington tournament and beating the reigning Class B County Champions, Bellmore JFK.

The team has tremendous depth and is comprised of multiple key young players. These players include sophomores Jack Palmer and Ben Naouai, who start at the outside hitter and middle positions respectively. Senior Jonny Rovitz and junior Jared Weissberg run a fast and effective offense from the setter position. Crushing the ball from the outside, senior Joe Rogers is one of the most powerful hitters in the county. Matthew Mascolo provides quick attacks and efficient blocking out of the middle. Off the bench, Zach Klus, Jahan Khan and Eddie Roesch bring tough serving and solid defense to the team. Vincent Gonzales and Luke Toomey are the life of the team, bringing contagious energy inciting both their teammates and the crowd.

Captains Luc Esformes, Sammy Gibson and Chris Scandole are the only returning starters to the team, bringing leadership and experience to a highly skilled group of athletes. Esformes and Gibson are both returning outside hitters, providing powerful attacks. Chris Scandole returns as one of the best liberos on Long Island, making clutch plays while leading the defense. These three comprise Long Beach’s solid serve receive, the foundation of the team.

Led by Coach Bill Gibson, a 2016 Long Beach Wall of fame inductee, Long Beach continues to improve and compete at a high level every day. With upcoming games against Massapequa, Plainview JFK, Port Washington, and other top schools, the team aims to cement themselves as a major contender in Nassau County. Come support the Varsity Volleyball team as they aim to compete in the playoffs for the 26th consecutive season.
