This past season has been the first for the Long Beach Challenger Basketball Team. It is composed of students of all intellectual and physical abilities who enjoy playing on a competitive basketball team while promoting sportsmanship.
Basketball helps students build sportsmanship, communication, and athletic ability. The Challenger Basketball League is a program on Long Island that been incorporated into 15 school districts within the last eight years. The schedule consisted of four games, two home and away series games against Lynbrook and Valley Stream. Long Beach went 1-3 this season.
The team’s last game was Tuesday, March 15th at 3:00 in the High School Gymnasium. The school mascot was there to raise team spirit, as well as an MC to raise entertainment. The goal was to pack the st
ands full of students and fans.
It was a great atmosphere seeing other sports teams and the student body there in support of the team. Unfortunately, the team fell to Lynbrook 18-12 in a back and forth game. All players competed to their full potential and had a great time doing so. It was a great team effort by all!
We all look forward for a potential Challenger Soccer Team in the Fall and and another great season of Challenger Basketball!
