Anthony Scores 62 Against the Bobcats

by: Peter KassapimagesCARIKR0COn a Friday evening, January 24th, the New York Knicks played the Charlotte Bobcats who previously had a  19-25 record. That night, the Knicks exceeded expectations in winning the game led by Carmelo Anthony’s 62 points. Melo broke the record for the number of points scored in any game ever played at Madison Square Garden.Kobe Bryant held the previous record with 61 points. Similarly,  Bernard King was the New York Knick who held the team record with 60 points.

Carmelo Anthony was the NBA’s scoring champion in 2013 with 28.7 points per game. Carmelo currently has 27.0 points per game and is four behind the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant who has 31.

In this legendary game, Carmelo made 23 out of his 35 shots from the field. His three point shots were spot on that night, hitting 6 for 11. Carmelo also had a double-double in that game; the 17th of the season.

Carmelo Anthony did not play much at all in the fourth quarter of the game. Carmelo was taken out with 7 minutes left in the game. If he remained in the game, he may have scored more points.

The record for most points in a NBA game is 100 by Wilt Chamberlin in 1962. Second on that list was Kobe Bryant who had 81 points in January of 2006.

The Knicks have had a lot of injuries and rely on Carmelo to lead the Knicks.The Knicks are currently 16-27 and are 2 games out of a playoff spot. The Knicks are looking to ride Carmelo’s hot streak to get into the playoffs.
