This past weekend, January 10th,  the Long Beach Model Congress hosted their 19th home congress.  Six delegations were able to attend the weekend festivities: Lawrence, New Rochelle, Oceanside, Tri – D Seaford, East Meadow, and Hewlett.

The congress was Dr. Seuss themed, and the events and decorations were inspired by his writings. The Cat in the Hat, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas were among the featured stories. Some of the festivities included committee rooms. Delegates had 17 committees to choose from for debating.

During breakfast, lunch and dinner the delegates had an opportunity to interact with friends and fellow United Model Congress Delegates. Derek Topper and Sophie Allen organized engaging entertainment, including Minute to Win It Challenges, Scavenger Hunts, Dr. Seuss Trivia and Writing Contests.model congress11

Long Beach delegates provided housing on Friday night for the visiting delegations. Housing is a great experience to make friends and memories that will last a lifetime.

There is always a winner of a Congress… This year, at Long Beach Model Congress XIX, Lawrence was the winner of the best delegation trophy.  Not only were they respectful, they were decorous, had amazing speakers, won board cheers, cleaned up after all meals, and showed up to win!

I would like to extend a huge Thank You to Mrs. Knag for helping make copies of all our bills and helping us set up. Mr. Hartmann the advisor of the club along with our board, Hannah Piazza, Azza Ben-Moussa, Rebeka Smith, Ally Golden, and Alec Wall all made this weekend the best congress ever!
