The prestigious title of Valedictorian and Salutatorian has been announced! Chandler McMillan, Valedictorian and Lindsay Ricci, Salutatorian share the excitement of earning this world renowned title.
Chandler McMillan, an IB Diploma Candidate said “I was paralyzed with shock then I called my mom”, when she found out she was this year’s valedictorian. Chandler is the Drum Major in the Marching Band, an active member in the Jazz Band, Pit Orchestra, Science Research Program, and Vice President of Tri-M National Music Honor Society, just to name a few. One of Chandler’s dream schools includes The University of Virginia.
Lindsay Ricci, also an IB Diploma Candidate says, “I didn’t even hear it on the announcements, but once I found out, I felt extremely proud of myself.” Lindsay is an active member of the Future Physicians Club, the Varsity Golf Team, and Secretary of Key Club. Lindsay also started a Peer Mentor Group called “Wish”, We Inspire Success and Hope. Lindsay wants to go for an engineering major at a school where “I feel happy and comfortable and where I can be successful at”.
Dr. Newman, the Director of Guidance and Vice Principal here at Long Beach High School says that “The Valedictorian and Salutatorian are chosen strictly based on a cumulative GPA from eighth, ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade.” Dr. Newman says that “In my two years of being here, the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian both take rigorous courses with a vast course load.”
It is no surprise that these two intelligent young ladies have been named Valedictorian and Salutatorian of their class. This is just to show that females are more than capable in being exceptional students and in making advancements in their own education.
